Deep Dish Dutch Apple Pie

Author Jacqueline

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe double pie crust you can find mine here
  • 10 apples peeled, cored, and then thinly sliced into 1/8 inch crosswise slices
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons butter divided

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375.
  • In a large bowl toss together the sliced apples, flour, sugar, and spices. Set aside.
  • In the bowl of a food processor, pulls together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter until course crumbles form.
  • Roll out the pie dough to approximately 1/8 inch thickness. Roll the pie dough up on your rolling pin and lay in a 9 inch springform pan. If the dough tears, just place the pieces in the pan and press it in. You want the dough to go all the way up the sides of the pan. Use a knife to trim off at the top edge
  • Working with one handful at a time, lay the apples in to the pie pan so that they are mostly laying flat. Sprinkle the streusel topping on top. Dot the surface with the remaining tablespoon of butter.
  • Place the prepared pie on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Turn the oven temperature down to 350 and bake for 40 minutes more. Remove from oven and cool to warm before cutting.
